Europe

Being closer to home, I often get the opportunity to take city breaks in Europe. Read about some of the places I’ve visited.

Bavaria

After strolling down the high street from Karlsplatz, we found ourselves in Marienplatz, home of the Rethhaus or Townhall. This square is famous for its Glockenspiel Clock which chimes at certain times throughout the day. We arrived just in time to see its last display of the day...”

In Munich for a concert we spent our time sightseeing in the city as well as taking day trips out to see some Bavarian Castles and to Salzburg in Austria.

Prague

We followed the river towards the Old Town, stopping at the bridges along the way to take photos of the famous Charles Bridge in the distance and Prague Castle on the hill across the river…

Visiting the Czech capital for a concert, we packed in as much sightseeing as possible to our long weekend. Read about my trip to Prague here.

Malta

In the afternoon, we… headed for the walled city of Mdina. Here, as well as exploring the city and enjoying beautiful views from the city walls, we visited the popular Fontanella Tea Gardens where we we indulged in a slice of one of the most delicious chocolate cakes I have ever tasted…”

Taking a Spring break to the island of Malta, we explored as much of the island as we could as well as taking a trip over to Gozo and Camino. Read about my trip here.

Copenhagen

After our canal tour, we walked to the first of many palaces to explore in the city, Christiansborg Palace…It was free to go up the Palace Tower to enjoy beautiful views across the city…”

Spain

The county abroad I visited most as a child, Spain’s islands are still often my first port of call for a relaxing package holiday by the beach and there’s plenty to discover in the cities of its mainland too.

Dublin

“On my first trip to the city, seeing as many sights as we could was the main priority…we started with the famous Guinness Factory...The highlight though, came right at the end with a visit to the Gravity Bar, a bar on top of the Storehouse which offers views across the capital.”

Italy

Italy is one of my favourite European countries and one I regularly return to. I’ve spent time in most of the major cities and some less visited regions of the country.
